Who Is Jesus?

The questions we like to ask about God are endless: “Is God real?” “Is what we know about Him really true?” and “what does He have to do with my life?” just to list a few.

The name of Jesus can invoke many opinions, emotions, thoughts and misconceptions in today's society. We want to reintroduce you to who Jesus really is and why He can change your life. C.S Lewis, a well-known Christian author wrote of Jesus, “Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

Jesus came to reveal the heart of the Father. What does that mean exactly? You may have been taught or formed an opinion on who God is by what you have experienced or the circumstances that you have lived through. However, God is not defined by your circumstances or your experiences, But God choose to reveal Himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ.

Why is that important? For us to understand God's character and heart toward us it is important that we can relate to Him. Jesus came to bring us into relationship with the Father. This means we can Know God and who he really is through Jesus. Many have the belief that God is an angry God, who blesses you when you are good and curses you when you are bad. The God that Jesus revealed couldn't be further from this misconception. God passionately loves you, and never stops loving you. Yes really! His love for you is not determined on your behavior, or your lifestyle, your experience or your background, but His Love is based on who He is. The Bible says in 1 John 4:8 that "Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." God defines himself as Love and reveals that Love in the person of Jesus. One of the best known Bible verses in the world is John 3:16. It says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." God SO Loved the whole world, that He sent Jesus to die as you, to take the punishment that you deserved and exchange His life for yours so that you could come into relationship with the Father. This free gift of salvation is yours, not by anything hat you have done, but by the finished work of Jesus.  John 3:17  says “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." God did not send Jesus to judge, curse or punish you for what you have done wrong. He actually sent Jesus to save you, to bring you into relationship with the Father, to live a life of purpose and freedom with Him. There isn't a 10 steps guide to find God, a quota of good works that you have to accomplish or a standard that you have to reach until you are acceptable. The only thing that you have to "Do" is believe in Jesus! Its that simple. What am I believing? You are Believing that Jesus is God, The messiah, who has dealt with the punishment of sin on the cross for us, and rose again three days later to give life and freedom to all who would believe in Him. You are believing that he is alive today, wanting to have a relationship with you and walk everyday with you for eternity.

Jesus commends the Apostle Peter’s confession of Him as “the Messiah, the Son of the Living God” (Matthew 16:16), because Jesus knew that who He is – and could be to us – has the power to change our lives. Jesus is so unique because two worlds collide in him: Heaven and Earth, the Divine and the human.

Yes, His Name is the name above all names, and his star-breathing, storm-calming, miracle-working power is second to none. Yet, He is also the human Jesus, the personal friend who knows what we are going through and cares about us. That’s why the Bible also calls Him “Immanuel”, God with us.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

A New beginning ...

To be made whole, or to be saved is to submit to God and His plan and purpose for our lives. It is a turning from our old ways and turning to Jesus, to ask Him for forgiveness from our sins and to give us new life in Him.

Romans 10:9 says that “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Salvation is God’s free gift to us and we become His children.

It is an irrevocable acceptance into the family of God and it is an empowerment to live life wholly and fully with the purpose of reflecting God to the rest of His creation.

If you are not sure whether you are right with God or you know in fact that you need Jesus in your life, you can choose to follow Him right now by praying a prayer of surrender to Jesus.

Dear Jesus, I’m praying this prayer because I know that I have done wrong by living without You. I am sorry and I trust that You will forgive me. I accept Your love and grace for me and ask that You would be my Lord. Help me believe in You and love You every day, and help me to show the world what You are like and how great Your love is.
In Jesus Name. Amen.

Congratulations! To pray these words with a surrendered heart to Jesus is the beginning of the most important journey you will ever embark on!
